A Notary Public is an attorney admitted and authorised by the High Court of South Africa to witness signatures, draw and attest contracts and statements, authenticate the validity of certain documents which are used in South Africa and outside of South Africa. The Notary Public holds a respected office which is internationally recognised.
Notarial deeds include, inter alia, ante- and postnuptial contracts, deeds of servitude, deeds of cession of usufruct, notarial leases, trust deeds of donation and notarial bonds.
We provide legalisation services in which we will affix, seal and sign official documents with an Apostille Certificate to be used internationally.
A Notary Public is different to a commissioner of oaths. A Notary Public may certify documents for use abroad- usually documents which are only certified by a commissioner of oaths are not acceptable for use abroad, although documents certified by a Notary Public are usually acceptable, and a Notary Public may prepare a notarial certificate and place his/her seal on such documents.

What are the requirements for a VAT zero rating for the sale of a property?
When purchasing a property, the purchaser will be liable to either pay transfer duty or Value Added Tax (“VAT”) to the South African Revenue Service (“SARS”). If the seller is a registered VAT vendor and he/she sells his/her property, then VAT is payable to SARS instead of transfer duty.
